James Street Tavern

Phenomenal wings. Cheap pitchers. Like coming home.

A tucked-away Monroeville dive bar with food that surprises everyone — huge fresh-to-order wings, a hot sausage sandwich reviewers write essays about, and pizza with an airy, non-greasy crust. Smoking-allowed, friendlier people.

Diamond in the Rough

A Tucked-Away Monroeville Favorite

James Street Tavern is the kind of place out-of-towners stumble into and never forget — "a diamond in the rough," reviewers call it, again and again. A real dive-bar atmosphere, smoking-allowed, with food that consistently surprises first-time visitors.

It's been a family favorite since the pandemic for plenty of neighbors, and a home away from home for the regulars. The wings are huge and made fresh to order, the hot sausage sandwich gets essays written about it, and the staff make everyone feel like they've been coming for years.

Oh my goodness!!! James Street Tavern has the most phenomenal Hot Sausage sandwich [w/ tater tots] I have ever had. Their bread is so soft with a crunch crust. The sauce does not sog the bread. The Sausage is a bit spicy with a kick but not over-powering. Their tater tots are crunchy and explosive when you bite into them. It's clear they change out their oils and season to perfection.

Visiting Pittsburgh for a night and this place was semi-close to the hotel. Dive bar atmosphere (love that) and the Thai chili wings were great. The 5 stars come from the people. Never been here before but the staff and regulars were super friendly and welcoming like I'd been coming for years. Great experience!

Pizza is delicious!!! Crust is airy, thick & non greasy...sauce tangy, sweet with generous toppings...when held by the crust...stands straight out...no dropping...good sign of good pizza.
